Summer Exhibitions, with opening party |
TORONTTORONTO , ON ( June 11, 2015) - On June 19,
Harbourfront Centre unveils five new summer exhibitions
featuring 27 artists. These exhibitions will consider the
relationship between land, politics and art; they will explore
traditional forms and methodologies from a contemporary
perspective through a variety of mediums. The summer exhibitions
will run from June 20 to September 20 and are free to attend.
"This summer's exhibitions are curated in partnership with
Planet IndigenUS and we are thrilled to be a part of a global
exploration of contemporary Indigenous culture," says Patrick
Macaulay, Harbourfront Centre's Director of Visual Arts. "The
participating artists will attempt to create dialogue between
Indigenous artists, as well as speak to diverse audiences as
they contemplate the shape, form and future of these
relationships."

PastStories, Present Sense
Curated by Astrid Ho and Suzanne Morrissette. PastStories,
Present Senseexamines narratives of belonging, identity and
family in the work of fourAsian-Canadian artists.
Nitewaké:non
Curated by Patrick Macaulay. Nitewaké:nonaddresses artist
Melissa General'srelationship to land and place by exploring the
history and narrative connected to her home territory, Six
Nations of the Grand River.
Over and Under
Curated by Melanie Egan. This exhibitionembraces a
broadrepresentation of weaving, includinguse of non-traditionalmaterials,
presentingworksthat highlight sublime skill and ingenuity.
30-Day Project
The 30-Day Projectinvolves a variety of artists from
Harbourfront Centre's Craft & Design Studio. Each artist has
committed to a daily activity of his or her choice with the
intention of pushing their practice forward, the results of
which are documented in this exhibit.
Running concurrently with the upcoming summer exhibitions is In
Between Worlds, an outdoor installation featuring three
large-scale photographs by Meryl McMaster, June 20 until
December.
